CLASS ATTENDANCE

Attending classes on a regular basis is a huge aspect of college success. While it is true that most students have lives outside of college, this should in no way serve as an excuse to not be in class.  Yes, there are certain reasons for missing a class or two (ie; illness, family emergency), but is so important to note that getting good grades is directly related to your class attendance.  If you need to miss a class or two for legitimate reasons, it is very important to let your professors know the reason.  All Professors have an attendance policy and it is to their discretion as to what this policy is for their class.  However, most Profs will understand your circumstances for missing class if you approach them prior to your absence (if at all possible) or immediately after your absence.  Communicate with your professors whenever you know you will miss class or whenever you unexpectedly miss class. This will let them know that you recognize the importance of class attendance and will lead to a better relationship with your Professors than if you simply skip class and do not discuss the situation with him/her.  Keep in mind, if you miss a class, you will still be held accountable for the material covered that day and it is your responsibility to find out what you missed.  Do not short-change yourself by sporadic class attendance.  Class attendance is key to learning the material.  The classroom is where you receive your Professor's expertise and valuable interaction from your peers.
